Pre-trip checklist
Do these 2 days before flying — it’s the difference between smooth and stressful.
Download offline maps
- In Google Maps → Offline Areas, download: "Munich / Upper Bavaria", "Tyrol — Ötztal (Austria)", "Baden-Württemberg / Rust", and "Garmisch-Partenkirchen & Zugspitze".
- Alpine signal can be spotty — offline maps save your day.
Bookings status
- All lodging confirmed: Top Apart Gaislachkogl (Sölden, Aug 15–22) ✓ · Hotel Bell Rock (Aug 22–25) ✓ · Rust-Fewo-Hotel (Rust, Aug 25–26) ✓ · Hotel am Badersee (Grainau, Aug 26–28) ✓
- Dropped / cancelled: LEGOLAND #1062739 ✓ · Agriturismo Vin e Amor (Dro) ✓
- Still to clean up: cancel the Lindau/Bodensee stop and Hinterzarten (Ferienhaus Esche) if those were ever booked; cancel the Ringsheim stopover (Expedia / Hotel La Toscana) if booked.
Documents ready (physical + digital photos)
- Passport(s).
- Israeli driver’s license (plastic card is fine).
- Credit card used for the booking (must be in the driver’s name).
Phone data plan set before landing
- Confirm eSIM/roaming is active BEFORE you land so navigation works immediately.
Save key codes offline
- Open “Bookings & codes” and “Print / PDF” once on your phone so it’s cached in the browser.
- Optional: save the Print / PDF view as a PDF for true offline access.
Navigation + car essentials
- Install Waze (or Google Maps) and log in before flying.
- Bring a car phone mount + a spare charging cable.
- Pack a small “front seat kit”: wipes, tissues, trash bags, snacks, water.
- One warm layer per person stays in the car — the Ötztal passes can be 10–15 °C colder than the village even in August.
Offline-map pro move
Even with roaming, mountain valleys can drop signal. Offline maps + saved addresses means you’ll never be stranded while kids melt down.
Docs + card = no surprises
Rental desks can be strict: the credit card used to book typically must be in the driver’s name. Have it ready to avoid delays at pickup.
